A man who laced candy with sedative and gave them to minors at a summer camp in the region has confessed to sexual offences against two young males both nine and 10.
The accused was detained after eight youngsters and an older person became sick at the location in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.
The accused was remanded in custody ahead of a subsequent court date on 28 November.
'Sweet game'
Mary Prior KC, handling the case, outlined the defendant's actions to the judicial body.
She explained his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a youth camp which he operated.
Ruben played a "treat game" with the children, the prosecutor explained, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to consume candy "rapidly".
She stated to the judge the man had played this game with the young males "repeatedly", and children had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She stated the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in summer 2025.
The legal representative added: "This year his family member had worries about the situation, justifiably.
"They decided to investigate in the individual's items."
Mrs Prior KC stated objects including infant oil, petroleum jelly and injection devices were found, and his stepchild contacted the authorities about his suspicions.
She said the defendant continued to play the "sweet game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the following morning.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that point," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was investigating the police response of the situation.
The legal representative said the minors were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the stepson notified the law enforcement a second time.
She explained the man then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
