Automobiles in Germany's Town Found Marked with Swastikas in Human Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police reported they were alerted by a resident who found a vehicle in Hanau smeared with red-colored fluid

Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Officers say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.

The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then found multiple other smeared automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Police state preliminary tests show the liquid was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are presently not informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.

City officials stated they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for information.

A high-ranking representative stated the attack left him without words and required to be addressed promptly.

"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the death of nine people by a gunman aiming at residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
